Founded in 1956 as College of Mining & Metallurgy with two engineering disciplines: Mining & Metallurgy, the institute is one of the oldest of its kind in India. Currently the institute is one of the 20 prestigious National Institute of Technology in India, established and declared Institute of National Importance by the NIT Act of Indian Government.
