THE General Body Meeting of Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) saw a big commotion from the Congress corporators over supply of water through tankers during last summer where the budget exceeded more than approximately 50 percent. The Congress corporators also expressed their dissatisfaction over conduct of the general body meeting without providing the copy of audited report to the corporators. Differences came to fore between the ruling party members on the issue leading to the Congress corporators as well as independent corporators also expressing their dissatisfaction over the supply of water through tankers at much more cost and demanded a resignation from Mayor Sunil Soni and Chairman Water Works Department Ramesh Thakur. Earlier the general body meeting of RMC started at 11.00 am on its scheduled time. Although BJP corporators were present, the Congress corporators were absent at that time. Soon after entering into the meeting room, the Congress corporators demanded the second reading of confirmation. Over this matter, along with RMC Speaker Ratan Daga, Raipur Mayor Sunil Soni intervened. Mayor Soni said that till the date the confirmation has not been read twice. All the information would be available with the secretariat and the corporators can have a look at it. At first the agenda of Finance Account and Audit department was presented. The Congress corporators expressed their dissatisfaction over the conduct of the general body meeting without providing the copy of audit report to the corporators. They demanded from the speaker for providing the copy of audit report first and then the discussion would be made on the agenda. Without the copy of audit report, discussion on agenda is worthless. Meanwhile on the basis of majority the BJP corporators passed the audit report of financial year 2006-07. During the discussion on the proposals of water works department, the Congress corporators created chaos for more than one hour over the supply of water through tankers during last summer season where the budget was exceeded inordinately. Replying to the question raised by Pramod Dubey regarding the supply of water at much more cost, BJP corporator Ramesh Thakur said that during the summer season when the people were facing water problem, they decided to continue the supply of water through tankers at a high cost. The decision was taken against the rule because for water supply, humanity is more important for them than the rules, said Thakur. Between the strong arguments and objections from the opposition, all the proposals of water works department were passed by the BJP corporators through majority of vote. http://news.hitavadaonline.com/news/index.php?mode=single&page=9&n=17277
